PLEIN AIR PASTEL WORKSHOP WITH JOELLE FELDMAN

Saturday and Sunday, July 8-July 9, 2017| 10AM-4PM
Member $160, Nonmember $200 for two-day series

Recognized and award-winning artist, Joelle Feldman, teaches students fundamental skills and introduces multiple approaches to painting with pastels. This two-day workshop will focus on composition, texture, color, drawing and outline, applying an under-painting and gradually building pastel layers until the painting is completed. The class starts with an introduction of materials, including exploration and experimentation with a variety of pastel painting surfaces using different grades and brands of pastel sticks. Instruction and pace may vary based on the class dynamics and participants’ needs. Open to all levels of experience.

THE ITINERANT PAINTER: MULTI-SITE PLEIN AIR PAINTING SERIES WITH JILL POTTLE

Explore differences of landscapes and capture a moment in time. In this three-day Plein Air workshop series, artist and instructor, Jill Pottle will lead students in painting three different Trustees locations, comparing the differences of New England landscapes.

The first day, the group will paint at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, taking in the outstanding vista where one can see for miles. Day two brings us to Farandnear in Shirley, where the trees of the pinetum will be the feature point. Closing out the series on day three, the group will meet at the Doyle Center in Leominster to explore the waterway, bridge, and wonderful weeping willows. These three destinations will give you a variety and with guidance you will learn how to design, simplify forms, and get the landscape down quickly and effectively.

Inclement days we will work inside or under cover. Some drawing experience requested. Critiques and historical references will be part of the experience. Mature teens are welcome to participate in this adult program. Please note that space in this class series is limited and pre-registration is required.

PAINTING MATERIALS AND METHODS WITH JILL POTTLE

Fridays, September 29 – November 3, 2017 | 9:30AM – 12:30PM

Member $200, Nonmember $250

This course is for beginning and returning painters who want to acquire fundamental painting skills and new approaches to painting with oils or acrylics. A dynamic and accomplished artist, Jill Pottle’s instruction includes weekly exercises and one-on-one teaching geared to all levels of experience. Whether picking up a brush for the first time or the hundredth, students emerge from this six week course with greater confidence and a renewed passion for painting.

Some basic drawing experienced is preferred.

PAINTING PASTELS WITH JOELLE FELDMAN

Join us for a hands-on class with an individual coaching approach. Students will learn how to build a pastel painting from start to finish. We will focus on composition, texture, color, drawing an outline, applying an under-painting and gradually building pastel layers until the painting is complete. We will explore and experiment with a variety of pastel painting surfaces using different grades and brands of pastel sticks and analyze the various outcomes. You will also learn basic techniques that will help you master the pastel painting process.
