Barry Van Dusen: Landscapes in Watercolor

This workshop will build upon the skills acquired in Barry’s previous classes, but will focus specifically on painting the landscape in an outdoor setting. (Note: if you didn’t make the earlier sessions – don’t worry – new participants are welcome!) Students will start indoors, using examples of Barry’s work to explore ways of creating expressive landscapes in watercolor. Next, students will take field kits outdoors and put their skills to work! This workshop is aimed at the intermediate to advanced student.

Weather permitting, your painting subject will be the magnificent, Fruitlands vista and surrounding landscape. Students will learn the basics of color and light to create watercolors of both vibrancy and depth along with specific color mixes that can be used to capture the Autumn landscape. Students will explore watercolors fluid, more spontaneous nature as a way to get down on paper with greater clarity what they are seeing.
