ART WORKSHOP: Introduction to Pastel Landscape Paintings
with David Kaphammer
Sunday, June 14, 10AM-3PM
$100 Members, $150 Nonmembers
Perfect for beginning and intermediate students, the goal of this one-day workshop is to integrate underpainting techniques, and expressive use of color and mark-making to infuse pastel landscape paintings with light, energy and motion.  Working from photos, preferably your own, students will complete two or three small paintings on  sanded paper.  The workshop will begin with a demo lasting about 45 minutes, after which students will work on their own paintings with individual coaching as Kaphammer circulates among the group. Our workshop will end with a critique of student work with pointers for continuing the painting momentum after the day ends. ART WORKSHOP: Plein Air Pastels with Joelle Feldman
Saturday July 18, 10AM-4PM daily
$100 Members, $150 Nonmembers
A recognized and award-winning professional artist, Joelle Feldman teaches students fundamental skills and introduces multiple approaches to painting with pastels. This one-day workshop will focus on composition, texture, color, drawing an outline, applying an under-painting and gradually building pastel layers until the painting is completed. The class starts with an introduction to materials, including exploration and experimentation with a variety of pastel painting surfaces using different grades and brands of pastel sticks. ART WORKSHOP: Jill Pottle, Plein Air Painting
Wednesday-Friday, August 4-6, 10AM-3PM daily

Enjoy the outdoors in this three-day workshop painting on location and viewing the amazing vistas at Fruitlands Museum. Working on location helps to build skills in perspective, recording information quickly and capturing the rich natural light. Students will learn how to simplify forms, develop overlapping areas of trees and hills to create depth, emulate color relationships in the water, sky and land and other compositional issues. Participants will learn how to get going quickly and how to capture the scenery fast with big shapes and ideas. Painting with Pastels, Joelle Feldman

This class for beginner to intermediate students is about learning, creativity and fun! Join us for a hands-on class with an individual coaching approach. Students will learn how to build a pastel painting from start to finish. We will focus on composition, texture, color, drawing an outline, applying an under-painting and gradually building pastel layers until the painting is complete.You will also learn basic techniques and good study habits that will help you master the pastel painting process and, ultimately, give you greater creative freedom in the medium. Once you have learned basic pastel techniques, your goal will be to express your vision of the subject matter in the medium. You will be free to select your subject matter, favorite palette and painting surfaces and apply your on-going learning in your own way.This is your time to learn, to experiment and have fun with the whole process.  There is no room for fear of failure in this class because there are no grades!  Let your creativity take center stage. Art Workshop: Landscape Photography

Learn how to take landscape photographs like a pro! Landscape photographer Norm Eggert leads beginning and intermediate students through the essentials for capturing stunning pictures in this one-day introductory photography workshop. Learn some basic measures you need to know to take better photographs and key guidelines for successful landscape photography. Students will then venture out into the Fruitlands campus to photograph the grounds and learn to see with a photographer’s eye through one-on-one coaching and group tutorials. At the end of the day, students will share their best works in a group critique that will include tips for exercising newly acquired skills after the workshop is complete.
