This Landscape Called America

Artists of the Hudson River School sought to communicate the beauty of the ever-expanding country in its youth.  As the 19th century opened, there was an outburst of innovation which rapidly changed the American landscape, stimulating rapid population growth, industrialization and westward expansion. Students learn about America's coming of age and the natural beauty of a pure American landscape by taking a close look at landscape paintings from Fruitlands' Hudson River School collection. To enhance what they've learned, students will have the opportunity to create a landscape of their own.
