Native People Long Ago and Today

For thousands of years, Native Americans have been acquainted with this rugged bountiful land. Our program, Native People Long Ago and Today (NPLAT), introduces students in grades 2-5 to the rich heritage of Eastern Woodland, Plains, Northwest, and Southwest Native Americans. Students find their town on a map of the Algonquin tribes, learn how native tools were made, tour our gallery and longhouse, make paper mokuks or beaded lizards and bracelets, try their hand at the Harvest Game and the Atlatl, learn seasonal craft and survival skills, and hike to the hunting grounds and lean-to.
